It’s time to check out one of the city’s newest watering holes, Doberman Drawing Room, located in the burgeoning Arts District. One of the first people you’ll encounter at the eclectic lounge is Andrew Martinez, master of ceremony.
“I feel as if I’m here to be the representative of the company,” Martinez says. “We have a lot of great people that work here and they’re more behind the scenes and you’re seeing the end product of their work—the drinks, the operations. For me, I’m the person you see when you come in here as soon as you walk in, so I feel it’s my responsibility to make sure that everyone is enjoying themselves.”
Doberman is a flourish of sights, sounds and flavors—the cocktail program was created by a world-renowned mixologist, the decor is eye-catching, and the music is a mix of genres. It’s Martinez’s job to create the playlists (he has played and sung music most of his life), talk up the cocktail program and add to the overall feel. He’s worked at several of Corner Bar Management’s (owners of the lounge) venues since 2019 and joined Doberman before it opened its doors this year.
“I make connections with the guests,” Martinez says. “I enhance their experience, make recommendations, oversee the membership program. … I think that it’s cool to be a part of something like this. People walk out and say, ‘Wow the city needed something like this,’ and I love being a part of it.”

Libation: Melon Milkis
While Doberman Drawing Room has some of the most creative and unique cocktails in the city, it also showcases delicious nonalcoholic drinks—the Melon Milkis is a personal fave. It’s made with rice milk, coconut, lime, honeydew and soda and garnished with a made-in-house rice cracker dusted in shichimi togarashi.
