In 2017, up in the Red Rock mountains of Nevada, Gila monster Chance was born. It was the same year that the Vegas Golden Knights became a professional NHL team, and once he heard the news he made his way down the mountain.

“I came down from Red Rock mountains, straight to City National Arena, saw the guys practicing here and immediately became a super fan and was asked to be the mascot of the organization,” he says.

Since then, Chance has become a main attraction at every VGK game. “I always enjoy giving high fives, biting people’s heads,” he says. “I love interacting with fans.” Chance was also awarded the 2024-’25 NHL community mascot award—an award that goes to the mascot that has the most impact in the community. Chance was a busy Gila monster during last off-season, making 321 appearances across five different states and Mexico. “It was very cool to win that award,” he says.

During the games, you can catch Chance scurrying all over the arena and on the ice during intermission.

“The next game is always my favorite game because it’s a chance to meet new fans, create more memories, be a part of our amazing game day experience,” he says. But Game 5 of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final, when the team won its first Stanley Cup, was, of course, his favorite game of all time. “My parents are very proud that I not only get to go out into the community and represent such a wonderful organization, but that I’m also a Stanley Cup champion!”
