Victor Drai was once primarily associated with late-night revelry lasting beyond the break of dawn. Drai’s After Hours, located on a subterranean level of Barbary Coast Hotel & Casino (later renamed Bill’s Gambling Hall) at the northeast corner of Flamingo and the Strip, cornered the market on the up-all-night scene for years before the property was reinvented last year as The Cromwell. Drai was invited to bring an expanded vision to the 188-room boutique hotel, complete with daylife on the third-story rooftop pool. Drai’s After Hours is now complemented by Drai’s Beachclub & Nightclub, practically enabling round-the-clock partying at the Cromwell.

With operations fine-tuned going into its second season, Drai’s Beachclub & Nightclub has become as popular as its late-night counterpart. “Memorial Day Weekend was great,” says Ryan M. Craig, managing partner for Drai’s Cromwell venues. “Actually, fight weekend (Mayweather vs. Pacquiao) and Memorial Day Weekend were both really good at all three venues.” Evenings during MDW featured live performances by 50 Cent, Akon, Chris Brown and The Weeknd within the Nightclub, while The Weeknd hosted Sunday’s daytime festivities at the Beachclub.

Brown and The Weeknd appear regularly at Drai’s, with Brown holding court at the Nightclub this Saturday (June 20) and both acts performing live during the extended July 4 holiday weekend. During this year’s electronic music festival Electric Daisy Carnival (June 19-21), Drai’s-associated DJs such as Adventure Club, 3LAU, D-Wayne, Quintano, Sidney Samson, Makik and Milo & Otis will all be on hand. “During the nighttime, when it’s like a fight weekend, we do like 5,000 or 6,000 people,” Craig said. “Not at one time, but throughout the night. It’s consistently packed. The nightclub is open Thursdays through Sundays, when we call it ‘Sundrais.’ We have hip-hop acts performing live ranging from the ’90s to recent years.”

The beach club alone welcomes 2,000 people when the party atmosphere reaches critical mass. Opening at 11 a.m., its nine lower-level bungalows and 15 upper-level cabanas overlooking twin main pools provide an optimal Drai’s daylife experience. The bungalows and cabanas contain comfortable sun-and-shade environs and flat-screen televisions, while the bungalows offer guests access to five spa-style pools. Daybeds are abundant on the patio areas and available for reservation any day of the week.

While dress is characterized by poolside wear during the day and chic fashions in the evening when the beach club is opened to handle overflow from the nightclub, Tuesday nights finds patrons wearing a blend of both for Yacht Club. The “night swim” event is one of Drai’s more popular weekly offerings, with DJ Warren Peace creating an open-format playlist. The venue offers spectacular views of the Strip, including the Fountains of Bellagio, that are practically worth the visit, especially from the prime real estate of the beach club’s circular mezzanine. Those views are hard to forget—and serve as a perfect complement to the sights and sounds of one of the Strip’s premier entertainment experiences.
