It would only make sense to stock the Juniper Cocktail Lounge full of the spirit that derives most of its flavoring from the juniper berry. Part of Park MGM’s rebranding of the property, Juniper offers more than 60 labels of gin—and what the Juniper mixologists do with said spirit is quite imaginative.

“Every beverage that we present is a moment where people can stop and stare and say, ‘Wow!’ And for some of these, we tell people ahead of time, ‘Get your camera out, get ready,’” said Rupert King, director of beverage for Park MGM. “For the specialty drinks, each vessel, the glass that it comes in, is unique. There’s a presentation to it that is very fun, it’s whimsical and the product that’s inside tastes great.”

Located right off the casino floor, Juniper offers an intimate space that exudes a speakeasy-type vibe with classic, ornate furnishings and billowy curtains that add a bit of privacy from the passersby. Seating can be done at the bar or on velvety sofas and plush chairs with small tables, perfect for groups.

Start your cocktail experience with a classic gin and tonic—except at Juniper they up the experience. “When guests order the GNT (gin and tonic) it’s like a choose-your-own-adventure cocktail,” said King. Along with the bartender, guests get to use a paper fortune teller to pick the gin, tonic and the garnish like juniper berries or bay leaves.

A fun, sweeter sip is the Carnival cocktail blended with Tanqueray No. Ten gin, fresh lime, St-Germain elderflower liqueur and cotton candy. Also in the fun category—because it comes in a glass shaped like a bird—is the A Little Birdie cocktail mixed with Sipsmith gin, fresh strawberries, Dolin dry vermouth and fresh lemon. But don’t stop there. Simple, yet elegant and tasty, is the True to the Roots cocktail with Spring 44 gin, clover honey, fresh lemon and fresh-squeezed orange.

Juniper’s use of fresh fruit and eclectic garnishes and housemade syrups from the property’s bakery add an extra touch to the specialty cocktails, and truly make a difference in the cocktail-tasting experience.

With more than a dozen specialty cocktails and the huge gin selection, along with top-shelf bourbon, scotch, tequila, rum, vodka, beer and wine, Juniper is more than a casual-cocktail-at-a-casino-bar experience. “We provide a higher-level cocktail experience,” said King. “We’re creating something memorable.”
