Head up the escalators from Mandalay Bay’s casino floor to The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, take a few steps forward and look for the giant bookcase to your right—this is where you’ll find the swanky modern speakeasy, 1923 Prohibition Bar. Once you step through the bookcase, you enter a world of low lighting, posh, period-piece furnishings and stylish décor that transports you to a different time and place.

If the word “speakeasy” makes you immediately think “cocktails,” then you’ve come to the right place. A throwback to Prohibition-era cocktails is de rigueur at 1923, but the mixologists here put some of their own spins on the classics, like the butter pecan Old-Fashioned, mango Mai Tai, Tommy Gun basil fizz and pineapple chipotle mule. We also love the true classics here like the Hemingway daiquiri and, one of our fave cocktails here, the brandy milk punch with brandy, half and half, sugar and vanilla extract.

Guests can delight in 1923’s brown spirits offerings, too, with impressive bourbon and rye choices including Whistle Pig, Angel’s Envy, Basil Hayden and picks from the vault like Horse Solider, Pappy Van Winkle and Blanton’s. Can’t decide? Order a flight.

On Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to midnight, the bar and lounge throws its complimentary NOLA Nights party, celebrating the snazzy, jazzy style of New Orleans with live musical performances and a cast of sexy burlesque dancers. If guests really want to splurge during NOLA Nights, they can book a VIP table for four for $300 ($450 for six guests) and enjoy plush seating, a digital group photo, a shout-out from the musical performer and two cocktails per person.
