It’s a tiki bar all grown up! Golden Monkey Tiki Lounge “is a one-of-a-kind escape in the heart of Resorts World Las Vegas providing guests with a vibrant island-inspired oasis to savor the flavors of tropical life,” said Vildan Buric, director of beverage at its host property.
It’s paradise mixed with luxury, and it has the drinks and atmosphere to put the experience right in the sweet spot. Mood lighting, comfortable chairs, island-inspired décor and a musical playlist that punches up the island tiki vibe also make Golden Monkey a must-visit. And a cool extra: You can tell your friends back home all about it when you pick up a free postcard at the bar. Fill it out and the staff will mail it for you to anywhere in the world.
Seven classic tiki cocktails make the menu, longtime familiars like the Mai Tai, Rum Runner and Scorpion. But Golden Monkey excels at original, specialty cocktails with unique ingredients like the One Way Ticket, a blend of Appleton Estate 8 Year Reserve rum, Hamilton 86 Demerara rum, Chinola passion fruit liqueur, Heirloom pineapple amaro liqueur, lime, pineapple and orgeat. The cocktail is then dusted with cinnamon over an open flame, sending sparks into the air. The Birds of Paradise uses pandan to create a tasty treat when mixed with Bacardi Superior rum, Chinola pineapple liqueur, orange, lime and pineapple; pandan is a banana-like leaf steeped in a simple syrup, which adds a nutty, vanilla and herbaceous flavor to any cocktail recipe. For those that like something a little stronger, in the vein of an Old-Fashioned or Negroni, try the Funky Monkey. The deep, strong cocktail with a silky mouthfeel is a mix of Teeling Irish whiskey, Giffard banana du Brésil liqueur, Kalani coconut liqueur, bitters and nutmeg.
If you’re with a group, no place does shareable cocktails better than a tiki bar, and Golden Monkey sticks to this tradition with its own punch bowls like The Hurricane, pictured, or the Red Monkey Fishbowl. Rum lovers should lean toward The Hurricane with its blend of Bacardi Superior rum, Myers’s dark rum, grenadine and pineapple, orange and lime juices, while vodka lovers will delight in the Red Monkey Fishbowl mix of Tito’s Handmade vodka, lychee liqueur, Fever-Tree sparkling pink grapefruit and watermelon and lime juices.
