As senior marketing manager for Fashion Show and The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian and The Palazzo, Janet LaFevre has seen Las Vegas evolve into the shopper’s paradise it is today. She spoke to Las Vegas Magazine’s Sarah Feldberg recently.

What are some of the trends you’ve noticed for 2018?

Right now we’re heavy into spring and summer, which is a fun time of year. Throughout the retailers we’re seeing fabrics in plaid, check, polka dot, floral and fringe, and colors such as pastels and lavenders.

Why do you think Las Vegas has become so popular for shopping?

There is really almost nowhere in the world where you can have over 12 million square feet of shopping in the resort corridor within three miles. Some of the most iconic shopping, dining and entertainment experiences all combined together makes us a really vibrant destination for shopping, and that attracts both domestic and international visitors.

Tell us about some of your retailers at both shopping centers?

Fashion Show is 2 million square feet and eight anchors with 250 stores. So as a pure shopping experience, there are 35 brands that can’t be found anywhere else in the state of Nevada and sometimes on the entire West Coast of the United States. We’re very proud of that. My 36th exclusive store is Lolli & Pops, a regional candy store from San Francisco Bay Area. They opened at the beginning of January. It is this incredible candy store, not only with their own Lolli & Pops brands, but they bring back the entire nostalgia of confections from your childhood as well as international favorites. The Grand Canal Shoppes is one of those iconic shopping, dining and experience destinations. It truly is about the experience at Grand Canal Shoppes. It’s one of the only places in the world where you can window shop by gondola. We have iconic luxury like Barney’s New York, Jimmy Choo, Burberry and Salvatore Ferragamo.

You have an exciting mix of food and beverage outlets at both shopping centers. What are some highlights?

At Grand Canal Shoppes we’re very known for our over 25 celebrity chef dining experiences. We have Buddy Valastro, the cake boss, who opened his first Buddy V’s Ristorante at Grand Canal Shops. We have Cut by Wolfgang Puck, SushiSamba and Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill. Our newest restaurant is Once by Los Angeles chef Ricardo Zarate. He’s an example of where we’re going in terms of the food and beverage collection, one of those authentic Los Angeles chefs who really brings fresh, new, vibrant street cred to our food and beverage. At Fashion Show, we added a really enhanced patio experience Strip-side two years ago, which includes popular favorites the Capital Grill, Maggiano’s Little Italy and El Segundo Sol, but we added Kona Grill, Sugar Factory and Benihana to really round out our collection.

How would you describe your personal style?

I describe my style as being more classic or traditional, but with a hip or twist element. I love jewelry. I seek out unique, independent jewelry makers wherever I travel. I’m a big traveler, so that’s usually what my takeaway gift is for myself, a piece of jewelry wherever I am.
