These days, electronic dance music is big business, but veteran DJ and producer Gareth Emery has been around long enough to take that all in stride. He first made an impression on the club scene in 2002 with his song “Mistral,” which was touted by major dance-music figures including Paul van Dyk and Tiesto. That helped Emery launch a career as a performer, producer and remixer, with further hit singles including “Sanctuary” and “Saving Light.”

Even as dance music has become more of an industry, Emery hasn’t been afraid to poke fun at his more mercenary-minded colleagues, most notably in a series of satirical videos featuring the fictional EDM group CVNT5. While others are chasing magazine rankings, he’s forging his own artistic path, and his new project is the live experience that he calls Laserface.

It’s a combination musical performance and laser show, with Emery spinning amid a dazzling array of lights. “We’re talking hundreds of state-of-the-art lasers and light beams, independently controlled and perfectly choreographed to every beat of the music!” Emery boasts on the Laserface website. It’s the latest evolution for one of dance music’s top talents, and Las Vegas is one of only a handful of cities in which to experience it.
