Neither Punxsutawney Phil nor the earth’s revolution around the sun seems to have an impact on the movers and shakers of our nightlife industry. While much of the country remains stuck in a deep freeze, pool season is back in Las Vegas. Yes, it’s technically still winter for the next three weeks and it may still be snowing in parts of the U.S., but the days of cabanas and swimsuits, of daybeds and suntan lotion, are upon us.

Entering the daylife game at the head of the pack is Drai’s Beach Club & Nightclub, the only rooftop pool experience on the Strip. Located atop The Cromwell, 11 stories above the hot corner (no matter the season) of Las Vegas Boulevard South and Flamingo Road, Drai’s has quite literally raised the stakes when it comes to pool clubs.

Drai’s is the brainchild of Victor Drai, whose rooftop pool parties at the W Hollywood partially inspired his latest Vegas venture, and he’s got his stamp all over, from the 35-foot palms that were crane-lifted into place to the luxurious cabanas, which include private restrooms and showers. Those looking for prime real estate can seek refuge in bungalows and daybeds, with seven tables near the DJ booth.

As Drai’s transitions into a hub for live performances, expect concerts to pop up throughout the season. Already, the lineup is stacked with shows by J. Cole (March 6) and Chromeo (March 14) in the nightclub, and DJ Shift headlining the season-opening bash of Beach Club on March 6, with Warren Peace on March 7 and Luke Shay on March 8. “I have been in the Las Vegas nightlife business for 15 years and I’m not only building the best nightclub in Las Vegas, I’m going to usher in a new era for nightlife and day life in Las Vegas,” Drai said last year. Consider it ushered.

The Cromwell, Beach Club, opens at 11 a.m. Fri.-Sun. beginning March 6; Nightclub, 10:30 p.m.-4 a.m. Thurs.-Sun. 702.777.3800
